Fall/Winter 2018 Hat Styles

From berets to wide brims, all the styles to wear this season

If the Fall/Winter 18 runways were any indication, headgear is going to be huge this season. I am a believer that hats can literally and figuratively “top off” an outfit, making a lasting impression. But lets be honest, it’s not hard to fall into a style rut with classics like baseball caps and pom pom beanies —especially when your first instinct is to keep warm (and more often than not, to cover that bedhead too). I’m here to tell you- it’s time to step out of your comfort zone with updated versions of knit beanies and Parisian inspired berets to unexpected styles like the balaclava.

Even if you don’t normally consider yourself a “hat girl,” these styles are reason enough to start experimenting. To help you dive head first into these must have accessories, I’ve pulled together styles you’ll be seeing everywhere this fall/winter.

The Beret

No city in the world does fashion like Paris, so its no surprise that its the birthplace of the beret. Though a few years ago they became the opposite of chic – mainly used as a symbol of French satire along with baguettes – the beret is back and its chicer than ever. Whether you top off a jeans and tee shirt look, plaid tailored suiting or a sweater dress and boots, this hat style will enhance any outfit.

Wide Brims

Every time I put on a wide brim hat I feel like Carmen Sandiego. I have a go to black fedora style from Goorin Bros. that I LOVE. Add something fun to your wardrobe this fall with deep reds or textures like suede.

Beanies

Upgrade a classic cold weather staple in neon and pink hues or fuzzy textures. I like to get a couple different pom pom beanies in chunky knits and neutral colors each winter for an easy bad hair/lazy day addition to my outfit.

Balaclavas

We’ve seen designers from Gucci to Calvin Klein showcase balaclavas on the runway but leave it to Rihanna to make the accessory her own. Though this incognito look was one of the biggest fashion statements to come out of Coachella this year, the balaclava does actually serve a purpose in cold weather months. Don’t you love when practicality is on trend?
